Monday Musings: New Year New Series

Happy New Year! (the mistletoe picture has relevance, I promise)
This is the first Monday of the New Year, time to start off the year right! I tried this sort of post the first Monday of last year . . .and, while I wasn’t able to keep up with my blogging plans, I did write 4 books this past year. Actually, 3 novellas and I finished the next book in the Vista Security series.
So . . . some quick updates, I should have a new novella releasing by the end of the month. I hope. I don’t do well with deadlines, I get all rebellious and tend to blow things up if I try to set them. Which is why I’ve never done a pre-order. And will never do one unless I already have the book finished. And since it was a Christmas book, I want to get it published as soon as possible so I’ll forgo the pre-order this time.
Ok, the story is set at Christmas time but it’s actually the beginning of a new series inspired by the hometown where I grew up. A place where oil was first discovered in Texas. It has quite the history. I did give my town a completely different name, mine is called Black Gold, Texas. Because you know . . .oil used to be known as black gold so I think it’s appropriate. My plans are to write books from even the time before the town was established. A book or two each generation because now that my characters are back (after an almost 10 year hiatus!!) I have a lot of story ideas (all inspired you understand, not real life stories of the town. 🙂 )
But I’m going to start with present day stories, and this book Mistletoe Miracles, is the beginning of the series so I’m going with it, late or not.
While currently my books are only available in Kindle Unlimited, I’m planning on putting the new series wide and let’s see what happens. I did have a new newsletter subscriber mention she didn’t do Kindle so clearly there is an audience wide. I might eventually take my thriller series wide, as well.
In the meantime, while this is a small town series, there will be suspense!! Because, you know, I have trouble writing unless there are dead bodies around. Just a quirk of mine.
I hope to be back soon with more updates – like a book cover which is still in the working-with-my-artist stage.
PS for Vista Security fans, I have tentative plans for a spring release of the next book, Forced To Trust. The problem is when your characters desert you for a decade, then it’s almost like learning to write again, those writing muscles do get rusty when you don’t use them! But I’m trying to whip them back into shape!
I’m excited about this new year, I hope everyone else is, as well! Talk to you soon.
PS again, I mentioned a newsletter subscriber above, are you subscribed to my newsletter? You can get a free book of bonus stories, as well as updates on my releases. Just go to the home page here dianalayne.com and sign up!
